Course Description

This unit is intended to equip you with knowledge, skills and attitudes that will enable you apply entrepreneurship knowledge in business and other environments. A course requirement for ATD 1.

Objectives
A trainee who takes this unit should be able to:

  1. Identify concepts of entrepreneurship.
  2. Identify entrepreneurial opportunities.
  3. Venture in to a new venture.
  4. Identify appropriate business expansion strategies.
  5. Develop a business plan.
  6. Apply appropriate entrepreneurial marketing strategies.
  7. Apply the concepts of business communication to manage an organization.

Introduction to Business Law and Ethics

Course description

This unit covers the competencies required to apply law and ethics in an organization. Competencies include: demonstrating foundational concepts in business law and ethics, illustrating the structure of court systems in Kenya, applying legal requirements in establishing a business, addressing civil wrongs using law of torts, preparing commercial contracts, applying partnership law in registering and administration of a partnership business and applying property law in registering interest in property.

A trainee who takes this unit should be able to:

Introduction to Financial Accounting

Course Description
This unit is intended to equip you with knowledge, skills and attitudes that will enable you to account for various basic financial transactions and prepare financial statements.


Objectives
You should be able to:
1. Apply accounting concepts in preparation of financial statements
2. Apply the double entry aspects of accounting
3. Account for assets and liabilities
4. Prepare financial statements of a sole trader, partnership and company.

Information and Communication Technology


Course Description

This unit is intended to equip you with knowledge, skills and attitudes that will enable you apply fundamental information and communication technology (ICT) skills in business.

Objectives:

By the end of the unit, you should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate proficiency in decision making using contemporary information communication technology tools.
  2. Use various application packages to solve business issues.
  3. Use data communication networks, the Internet and e-commerce in optimizing business opportunities.
  4. Apply data security measures and procedures.
  5. Implement information systems legal, ethical and social issues.
